Mohd Fua’ad Rahmat was born in Johor Bahru, Johor Malaysia. His secondary school was at Maktab Sultan Abu Bakar (English College) Johor Bahru, Johor from 1979 to 1983. After SPM in 1984, he pursued his degree in Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia under Ericsson Telecommunication Scholarship. He was appointed as Assistant Lecturer A in the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) on 2nd January 1990 after graduating B.E.Eng. (Hons) from UTM in 1989. He started his master's degree by teaching courses specialized in Control System Engineering on September 1992 till September 1993 at The University of Sheffield, UK. His master's degree dissertation entitled "Estimation of Frequency Contents from a Time Series" was supervised by Professor S.A. Billings. Subsequently, he pursued his Ph.D. degree in Electronic Instrumentation Engineering at the School of Engineering, Sheffield Hallam University, U.K. under the supervision of Professor Robert Garnet Green @ Bob Green from October 1993 until December 1996. Based on his Ph.D. research title Instrumentation of Particle Conveying using Electrical Charge Tomography, he was awarded Hinckley Prize for outstanding academic achievement in the field of engineering during Sheffield Hallam University Convocation Ceremony in March 1997. Currently, he is a Professor in the Department of Control and Mechatronics Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Skudai Johor. His fields of specialisation are system identification and estimation, signal processing, process tomography for industrial processes, process control instrumentation, sensors and actuators, and hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
